On Tuesday, October 15, fifteen people joined in the 2nd monthly cleanup of Wai`ele beach in Kapoho.  This important neighborhood location is part of heritage lands, and contains an ancient Ala Kahakai.  Marine debris has covered the coastal area, sometimes washing all the way into the jungle.

As part of its ongoing effort to remove this debris, the Wai`ele Stewardship Partnership (of Malama O Puna, 501c(3), Dragon’s Eye Learning Center 501c(3) and the Koa`e Community Association, and concerned individuals), the day comprised centralizing and bagging of marine debris at the coast, and multiple manual removal walks (1 hr. on foot through a jungle trail round-trip) to get bagged debris to the Beach Road.

Thanks to all participants, especially Mark Toews for generously donating time, truck, and gasoline in removing the estimated 600# of debris to the transfer station, and Ann Kobsa for her continued stewardship of this land.
